Key Spaces

A collection of multi-sensory experiences

The following is a collection of spaces throughout my overall project that strongly demonstrates the intent of my design strategy - to intend for the WBPS to become a creative cultural centre to drive innovation and encourage people to connect through a series of multi-sensory experiences.

The Market Place

Located on the ground floor, the marketplace becomes a central ‘social hub area for the whole site. The intent of the marketplace is to allow all people to come and decide how they want to socialise or retreat in this space. This is specifically achieved through my modular furniture design that allows people to choose how they want to position themselves and socialise with others.

02

Sensory Playground

The sensory playground aims to create a space for people to directly interact and play with their environment. By moving balls into different positions on the sequencer, different notes and sounds play in sequence. From researching and studying the existing heritage control panel on-site, the proposed sequencer board mimics its design language to celebrate the heritage of the building.

The Grand Staircase

Inspired by Escher art, the main stair case aims to become a grand sculpture/artwork that vertically connects all my spaces. Rather than having the one function of being a mode of vertical transportation, these stairs encourage places to meet, interact and view your surroundings - it gives opportunity to a range of '4th spaces'.

04

Collaboration Pods

The architectural language encapsulating the collaboration pods creates a focused environment for groups to collaborate, however, it does not isolate from the main library space. I specifically designed the form of these pods to continue the idea that innovative design comes from a continual sharing between all kinds of people, it does not stop after the research phase.

Biodatasonification Room

The biodata sonification room allows users to come and experiment by clipping synthesizers to plants that in return affect that sound and light in the space. This room intends to draw on the concept that new ideas and new ways of thinking can come from engagement with innovative multi-sensory experiences. It also intends to inspire the community to think, experiment and create together.
